The Stephen Foster Jeanie Ball and Auditions was originated in December,1951. It was created to stimulate and promote promising young female vocalists in the state. The first music scholarship award was presented to the winning Jeanie in 1954 by Stephen Foster's closest living relative, Evelyn Foster Morneweck.
