Located at the northwest corner of Central Avenue and Davidson Street. Built around 1884.
Biographical Note
Captain David Hughes was the original owner of the building. He ran a store that occupied the lower level of the building. By February of 1891 part of the building started to be run as a hotel. Mrs. Bessie Bradley operated the hotel as the Bradley House. In 1892 the building became known as the Central Hotel and Restaurant.In 1893 the building became the Buchheit House and was managed by J.J. Buchheit.
Other owners and renters of the house (chronological order, starting from 1893) include I. M. Mabbette (Mabbette House), E.Y. Watts, John S. Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Towles (Towles House), W.B. Jennings, J.J. Crosby, A.H. Lane and T.I. Folson, Edgar Poe, Fred Seybold.
Sometimes after 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Towles regained ownership of the Commercial House. They ran the establishment until it ceased to function.
