The second male from left is Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) Executive Director Harmon Shields.
Sunniland Oil Field was Florida's first commercial oil field, created in 1943 by Humble Oil and Refining Company, although oil exploration had been done in Florida since 1900. The historical marker was erected by Collier County Historical Society and the Collier County Historical Commission.
