Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park was purchased by the State of Florida from Camp Ranch in 1970 (9219 acres), and conveyed it the Florida Park Service in 1971. It was the first preserve in the park system. It is located off U.S. 441 ten miles South of Gainesville.
Paul Crawford now, (10/22/2008), manages the Anastasia State Park near St. Augustine.
