The hotel began as Francis Dampier's general store on Line Street until it was moved to Main Street and became the Orange Hotel. About 20 years later, the hotel was transferred to Seminole Avenue, where it became the Hotel Inverness, until it reverted back to the Orange Hotel. After a series of owners, name changes and a multimillion-dollar facelift, the hotel later reopened as the landmark Crown Hotel in 1980.
