First Commissioner of Education and 15th person to serve as Florida's chief state school official, he resigned his office in April 1974 amidst allegations of irregularities in the awarding of contracts for the Dept. of Education. Christian was indicted by a Leon Co. grand jury on charges of perjury and bribery in connection with his awarding $1.5 million in contracts without bids to a friend and business associates. He pled guility to federal income tax evasion and served several months in federal prison. Shown at the right is Floyd Christian's attorney Joe Jacobs.
Biographical Note
From 1963 to 1992, photographer Donn Dughi worked for a number of media outlets in Tallahassee, including WCTV, the United Press International (UPI), and the Associated Press. From 1992 until his retirement in 2001, Dughi was a photographer for the Florida House of Representatives.
