East & Southeast Asian
A wide variety of musical traditions from China, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia make up this category in our collection. Depending on the location, dominant instruments may include zithers, dulcimers, flutes, gongs, cymbals, bells, or drums. Music from this region can be found in a number of Asian communities within Florida’s major cities. Performers of East and Southeast Asian music in the Folklife Collection include Ann Yao (Chinese), Pham Duy (Vietnam), and the Knights of Rizal Chorale (Philippines).
