Description
This film shows a group of skiers in a campaign to promote St. Petersburg as a "young people's town." They make a 17-day trip on water skis to the New York World's Fair. They encounter rough waters outside Venice. Then they travel from Fort Myers to Okeechobee by canal, then to the Atlantic. They follow the coast, up Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore, then through New York harbor with the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline in the background. This 1,600 mile trip by amateur skiers ends with a performance at the World's Fair Marina. Produced by FDC; sponsored by St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

Video
Description
This film gives a detailed overview of south Florida's sugarcane industry as a celebration of the "good country life" of the farmer. It was shot entirely in the Lake Okeechobee area. The film details sugarcane production in all of its phases: from planting, field burning, harvesting and milling, to loading the refined sugar into barges for shipment. It also covers the Spanish introduction of the cane plant into Florida in the 1500s, South Florida's early sugarcane industry, and the great hurricane of 1928. Several state and federal experts make short testimonials on sugarcane and associated industries. Produced by Cinema East Miami and the Florida Sugar Cane League.

Description
12 color slides. Sam Griffin was the son of a commercial fisher on Lake Okeechobee, who then moved in 1948 to sportsfishing. Sam began making lures to support his father's business. His business had 12 full-time employees, all females, and make 300,000 lures a year. In 1992, the Palm Beach Community College contracted the Florida Folklife Program to conduct ten days of fieldwork in March 1992 around Lake Okeechobee for a Lakefront Legacy Festival later that year (16 May 1992). Headed up by FFP folklorist Debbie Fant, and assisted by Robert Stone and Robert Shanafelt, the fieldwork involved 26 informants, slides, print images and recorded interviews. In the end, the FFP recommended seven people for festival participation.
