Worm grunters generally sell their catch to fish bait shops. Thousands of dollars were earned in the National Forest in from the 1930s through 1970s, until TV journalist Charkles Kuralt did a story on the grunters, attracting the attention of the US Forest Service and IRS. Today the industry is regulated. Grunters sell to bait shops.
