This series consists of black and white and color photographs depicting residents, staff, facilities, and programs and activities of the Florida School for Boys. Images include boys in classrooms and participating in training and activities relating to sports, music, agriculture, mechanics, etc., as well as interiors and exteriors of campus buildings.
The Dept. of Juvenile Justice was created by the Juvenile Justice Act of 1994 (94-209 Laws). The Secretary of the Department is appointed by the governor and shares leadership duties with the Deputy Secretary. The Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida, was a high risk residential commitment facility operated by the Department of Juvenile Justice for male youth 13 to 21 years of age who were committed by the Court.
Restricted per s. 985.04, Florida Statutes, Juvenile Justice; Oaths; records; confidential information; and s. 958.13, F.S., "Youthful Offenders; Sealing, expunction, and dissemination of records.," and will be open for inspection 50 years from date of creation per 257.38(2), F.S., ("...any public record or other record provided by law to be confidential or prohibited from inspection by the public shall be made accessible only after a period of 50 years from the date of the creation of the record."
