Accompanying note: "The Lake Munson Canoe (8LE5785) was exposed during a recent draw down of the lake. It is a prehistoric dugout canoe approximately 500 to 800 years old. It was made from a pine or cypress hollowed out by prehistoric inhabitants of the Fort Walton cultural period (1000 AD to 1450 AD) using fire and stone tools. Exhibiting a platform on either end, it is incredibly well preserved."
"Eric Holdos, Paul Chamberlain and Museum of Florida History's Drew Ericson work quickly to place dollies underneath the canoe to prevent undue stress on the vessel and to facilitate movement from one area to another."
