NASA T-38 & T-33 aircraft parked on ramp at NAS Key West.
Collection number N2006-4
Accompanying note: "Astronauts trained in K.W."
Note in the background at the left is a Lockheed EC-121 Constellation. These were used for hurricane tracking and were the first airborne early warning aircraft. They were also used as Air Force 1 when Eisenhower was President. After the Cuban missile crisis, these aircraft flew a racetrack course along the 24th parallel between the United States and Cuba, 24 hours a day for years to protect our airspace. The last EC-121 the Navy owned, was stationed at Key West with squadron VAQ-33 and was decommissioned in the late 70's.
