- Preparation for solar observatory launch
- A 545-pound Orbiting Solar Observatory (OSO-B) spacecraft undergoes tests at the Spin Test Facility. OSO-B will be launched by a three-stage Delta vehicle. The OSO program is directed by the Physics and Astronomy Program Division of the National Aeronautics and Space Adminatration's Office of Science and Applications. The objectives of the Orbiting Solar Observatory program are to advance our understanding of the Sun's structure and behavior and to determine the physical processes by which the Sun influences the Earth.
