Opening the 1950 racing season at Hialeah Park saw Alice Wendler, Miami Beach Times, editor, presenting a silver tray to the jockey who rode the winning horse in the Times Handicap. Owner Bill Gray and Times publisher James Wendler are happy as the three-year-old was a 20-1 shot.
