General Note
Accompanying note: "A Cessna 320, carrying five passengers, was forced to make a belly landing at Tallahassee Municipal Airport yesterday when the pilot reported his wheels were locked up under the plane. Charles Smith of Dallas, Tex., who was piloting the plane, said that he was attempting to land when he discovered his wheels wouldn't come down. The Fire Department sprayed 1,500 feet of the runway with fire fighting foam to assist the plane in a non-combustible landing. No one was injured, but the plane reportedly suffered heavy damages. The group was on its way to Miami. Several planes were kept in holding patterns above the airport while the foam and plane were cleared from the runway."
The Tallahassee Fire Department provides emergency services from fires and fire hazards, as well as first response to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Its mission is to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property, protect the environment, assist in cooperative emergency medical services, mitigate the consequences of natural and unforeseen disasters, and provide non-emergency support services, through professional and effective delivery, to all who live, visit, work or invest in the City of Tallahassee and Leon County.
