The fire started about 11:30 p.m. in the Empire Theater and spread to the adjacent Orange Hotel. After a water main collapsed, firemen laid hose lines to the Halifax River about a block and a half away.
The Tallahassee Fire Department provides emergency services from fires and fire hazards, as well as first response to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.
