Accompanying note: "Talbot 'Sandy' D'Alemberte is the new president of the Florida Supreme Court Historival Society for the year 1990-1991. He is shown standing beside a family heirloom once associated with the Supreme Court. The unusual desk was used by his great uncle, James B. Whitfield and later by his grandfather, G. Talbot Whitfield, when each served as clerk of the Supreme Court of Florida. James B. Whitfield was also a member of the court from 1904-1943 and Chief Justice in 1905, 1909-1913 and 1935-1937."
"Mr. D'Alemberte was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1966-1972. He is a partner in the firm of Steel Hector & Davis, Miami and is the President-elect nominee of the American Bar Association [He eventually became the President and served from 1991 to 1992]."
Biographical Note
Born on June 1, 1933 in Tallahassee, Florida. Sandy D'Alemberte was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1966-1972. After leaving the Florida Legislature, he chaired the Florida Constitution Revision Commission in 1977-1978 and the Florida Commission on Ethics in 1974-1975. He served as president of the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society for the year 1990-1991. On November 29, 1993 he was appointed president of Florida State University by the Florida Board of Regents and took office on January 3, 1994 which he held until January 6, 2003 when he was succeeded by Dr. T. K. Wetherell. D'Alemberte joined the law firm of Hunton & Williams in 2004, where he focused on appellate and trial work and later retired from the firm in 2008.
