Accompanying note: "Rep. Hal Chaires, veteran House member from Dixie County, died from a heart attack today. He was 57. Chaires was first elected the the House in 1954 and served every term since. He specialized in traffic safety legislation and pushed through a number of new laws concerning traffic regulation. He was a leader of the rural forces which dominated the Legislature on reapportionment, including the last. He is pictured here during a committee meeting in the 1965 Legislature."
