- This outdoor drama, described as a "skillful blending of acting, singing, dancing and scenic design", was first presented in the summer of 1965. "Cross and Sword," later designated Florida's official state play by the 1973 legislature, dramatizes the story of Spanish colonization of the nation's first city, St. Augustine. It was written by Pulitzer prize-winning author Paul Green.
