  • Ewan arrived in Miami in 1874 to take charge of a square mile of property on the north side of the Miami River owned by the Biscayne Bay Company. He served in the Florida legislature from 1879 to 1885 where he was dubbed "Duke of Dade" for his proper dress and manner.
