Biography Note

Bruce Takach was born on July 1, 1941 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was a navy veteran having served during the Vietnam era, 4 years active duty on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga followed by 2 years of inactive duty. During his service, he was sent to the Mediterranean three times, Guantanamo Bay twice, and sailed to India, France, Spain and Greece. When he crossed the Arctic Circle, he earned his Polar Bear Card. Bruce entered the Florida Highway Patrol Academy on January 22, 1967. He had lived in Tallahassee since 1984 and retired from the Florida Highway Patrol having served as the Captain of the Academy and Chief of Investigations before his retirement as Lt. Colonel in June 1998 following 31 years of service. He passed away on August 9, 2018.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2021-22, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $561,960. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
