Accompanying note: "On June 3, 1965 after 3 orbits about the earth, Major Edward H. White, II egressed his Gemini 4 space capsule above the Pacific Coast of the United States and traversed the boundaries of space for approximately 22 minutes. Astronaut White performed spectacular scientific demonstrations while secured to the Spacecraft by only a 25 foot umbilical line which supplied him with oxygen and a 23 foot tether line, both wrapped together with gold tape to form one cord. Holding a self propulsion device or gas gun, White was able to maneuver freely and thus proved that future astronauts can assemble space stations or repair defective space hardware while in the realm of space outside the atmosphere. Notice, like all good tourists Major White carries his camera."
