The Alcazar Hotel was built by Henry Flagler in 1888. Later, in 1948, Otto C. Lightner, the Chicago publisher and editor of "Hobbies" magazine, converted the empty hotel into the Lightner Museum. Three floors display his vast collection of art, antiques and other items. The building was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
