On July 6, 1939, Eastern inaugurated the first scheduled autogiro mail service. The machine was a Kellett Autogiro. and its route was between the Camden, New Jersey airport and the roof of the main post office in Philadelphia. Captain John M. Miler, veteran autogiro pilot, was first officer of the flights. Later pilot P. J. Lukens alternated with Miller. Service continued for one year, but was dropped because of the national emergency. During this time there were regularly scheduled 10 flights per day, more than 85% of them were completed.
