Swimming horses in the sea : The 9th (Black) Cavalry Regiment at exercise.
, State Library, MC12-3
Handwritten note: "Buffalo Soldiers".
Accompanying note: "Our Special Artist writes: 'Every afternoon, about three o'clock, the horses of the 9th Regiment encamped at Port Tampa, are taken out for exercise and a bath. The troopers slip out of their clothes and take the horses into the sea. It is a very inspiriting sight to see the horses and men, all glistening with wet in the sun, come dashing into shore, sending up great splashes of spray."
