General Note
Accompanying note: "Sarasota Army Air Field was leased to the Army Air Corps by the Sarasota-Manatee Joint Airport Authority in February 1942. Airmen from the 97th Bombardment Group arrived the following month. The heavy B-17 Flying Fortresses used by the airmen necessitated repairs to the runways. The entire base was turned back over to civilian use in 1946."
