Cape Canaveral, from the Spanish "Cabo Canaveral", is a headland in Brevard County near the center of the state's Atlantic coast. It was later known as Cape Kennedy from 1963 to 1973.
Accompanying note: "AIR FORCE MISSILE TEST CENTER PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, FLA. U. S. NAVY VANGUARD - SATELLITE VEHICLE"
"The Vanguard blasts off from its launching stand at Cape Canaveral, Fla., carrying in its nose a small earth satellite. This 'baby moon' is now circling the earth as part of United States participation in the International Geophysical Year. The Vanguard, undertaken by the Naval Research Laboratory, is one of the rockets now being tested at the Air Force Missile Test Center."
