General Note
The Venice Depot (also known as the Venice Seaboard Air Line Railway Station) opened in 1927. Service at the station ended on April 30, 1971. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 17, 1989.
Biographical Note
Photographer Michael Siede was born September 29, 1952 in Hearne, Texas and spent his childhood in Venice, Florida. Siede earned the degree of Associate in Arts From Santa Fe Junior College in Gainesville, Fla., a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Florida State University in Tallahassee, and a Master of Fine Arts in photography from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. His photographs are included in the collections of the National Library of France, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Siede's work has also been exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His commercial specialty was architectural photography. He passed away on May 3, 2003.
