General Note
Smokey (or Smoky) Hollow was a neighborhood roughly bounded north-to-south by E. Jefferson St. to E. Van Buren St. and west-to-east by S. Gadsden St. to Marvin Street. It was condemned in the 1960s and lost to urban renewal. Later commemorated by designation of the Smoky Hollow Historic District on October 27, 2000.
Accompanying note: "First slums to be cleared if the Urban Renewal Act is ratified by Tallahassee voters on Feb. 21 include these [Smokey] Hollow shacks almost in the shadow of the Florida Capitol building."
