General Note
The Dade Street Recreation Center was later renamed Lawrence Gregory Community Center in 2002 in honor of Mr. James Lawrence, retired Recreation Superintendent, and Beulah Gregory, the first Supervisor of the facility.
Accompanying note: "Several boys and girls worked out checkerboards and other table games for The Democrat photographer in the Dade Street Center recreation area, which can be converted into two, three or four separate meeting rooms if necessary."
"The new Dade Street [Recreation] Center, first for Negroes in this area and built jointly by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County, will be dedicated today and open for business tomorrow."
