The meridian was originally marked in 1824 by Robert Butler; the marker pictured here was erected in 1925.
Accompanying note: "Dr. Mark F. Boyd started Tallahassee restaurant and lodging house operators off on their sightseeing tour of Tallahassee yesterday at the meridian marker behind the county jail, which is the point of beginning for all land surveys in Florida."
