Accompanying note: "Leroy Speed tries using a hand held instrument known as a 'dibble' in planting trees on the Rolle-Curry farmland. Watching is Richard A. Hartsfield, County Extension Service agent who does not recommend this antiquated method because it is too slow and in large scale operations proves to be more expensive than the tractor-drawn planter."
The program, supported by Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson, pays farmers to take land out of crop production by planting trees.
