And afterwards to wit: on the 13[th] March 1838 came the plaintiff by his Attorneys and filed his declaration in the words and figures following to wit:

Leon County to wit Arthur Macon by his Attorneys Walker and Call and Edwin A. Hart complains of the Tallahassee and St. Marks railroad company-

For that whereas the said defendants to wit on the first day of January 1857, Leon County, to wit, hired of the said Plaintiff a certain negro man slave named Esop for the year 1857, and then and there agreed with the Plaintiff to take good care of the said slave and afterwards to [?] on
