H.B. Croom to Mrs. H.B. Croom

From Philadelphia to NewBorn

August 31[st] "but the most agreeable in formation is that I have consulted Dr. Jackson, and after examining my breast he thinks that my lungs are not seriously affected but only weak."

November 26[th] (no year mentioned) "I am exceedingly anxious to reach Florida as my business may suffer from my long absence, But my principal ??? is in reference to that lawsuit I mentioned to you for I find that Mr. Westbrook has paid over the property of the estate to the heirs without reserving any to meet this debt one or two others in Lenoir, and cannot get it back without suit as Richard refuses to pay. This arises from Mr. Westbrooks ignorance, and want of attention to the state of his funds compared with the debts. With ill health and other vexations I have enough to bear."
