General Note
"Bellevue" was built in 1831 by Samuel H. Duval, kinsman of Florida's first Territorial Governor, William P. Duval. The property was later purchased from Princess Murat's sister Mrs. Duval. It became the home of Princess Catherine Willis Gray Murat who lived here after the death of her husband, Charles Louis Napoleon Achille Murat in 1847. The name "Bellevue" was derived from a residence in Brussels where Prince and Princess Murat had spent a very happy period of their lives. The house was moved in 1967 from its original site on Jackson Bluff Road to the grounds of the Tallahassee Junior Museum (later Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science after 1992) and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
"Visit Florida" operates under a contract with the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development as Florida's tourism marketing agency. "Visit Florida" is not a government agency, but rather a not-for-profit corporation created as a public/private partnership by the Florida Legislature in 1996.
