General Note
Villa Vizcaya in Miami, former home of one of America's great industrialists, James Deering, is now the home of the Dade County Art Museum where European decorative arts date from 1450 to 1800. The great Italian house, opened in 1916, rises on Biscayne Bay and its broad yacht harbor is protected by an amazing stone boat. Vizcaya was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. It was later designated as a National Historic Landmark on April 19, 1994. The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Trust was later formed to be the museum's governing body in 1998.
