General Note

  • Accompanying note: "Ada Mickler, the youngest of ten children raised in a Minorcan community between St. Augustine and New Smyrna, wove her first castnet when she was a teenager. She does her 'netting' in spare time, making both the English and Spanish castnets. This mullet net is made of cotton cord, with lead weights amounting to one pound per foot of netting. If she worked full-time, Ms. Mickler feels it would take her one week to complete a net of this size."
