General Note
Wainwright was shot in the leg by inmate George A. Heroux during an attempted escape. The gun was smuggled in by the inmate's girlfriend one piece at a time. The number 2 man at the prison, J.B. Godwin, was killed and another officer was grazed. Mr. Wainwright was Captain of the Guards at the time.
