General Note

  • Port St. Joe, Gulf county, on St. Joseph's Bay located near the site of the old town called "Saint Joseph, the lost City." This old city, scene of the first constitutional convention in 1838, was destroyed in 1841 by a yellow fever epidemic and a tidal wave. Named for the bay, which bears the name of Saint Joseph, a saint of the Roman Catholic Church.
