- Accompanying note: "Governor Farris Bryant (front row, right) and other state officials joined to break ground near here for a 154-mile northward extension of the Sunshine State Parkway. Coupled with the 110 mile Miami-Fort Pierce section, it will give motorists 266 miles of limited -access, multi-laned raod to travel over on driving to South Florida. Governor Bryant, acutely aware of the need for good roads to serve the state's visitors and residents, is pushing the most aggressive highway construction program in Florida's history. During each month of 1961, work was in progress on projects totalling a minimum of $194,000,000."
