Accompanying note "Gadsden County Courthouse in the center of the square in downtown Quincy. Gadsden County was created in 1823, one year after Florida's territorial government was formed. Gadsden County was named after James Gadsden, aide-de-camp in General Jackson in 1818. Agriculture and timber are the principal industries; shade-grown tobacco and furniture manufacturing are important factors."
