Born in Maury County, Tennessee as one of 16 children. She graduated from Tuskegee in 1928 and earned a diploma in elementary education at Florida A & M College for Negroes, a BS in 1945 and a masters in 1956. She was the first Jeanes teacher-supervisor for Leon County.
