The highest court in the state is the Supreme Court which is composed of seven justices appointed by the Governor from a list of qualified persons submitted by the Judicial Nominating Commission for a term ending on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January of the year following the next general election occuring at least one year after the date of appointment.
