Chief Thomas P. Coe joined the Department in 1906 and became Chief in July 1912. At the time, the Department consisted of one double horse-drawn hose wagon, one hook and ladder wagon and a staff of two paid men, a paid chief and 20 volunteers. Chief Coe served 34 years in the Department, 28 of them as Fire Chief. His last day as Fire Chief was April 30, 1930. He continued to work for the city as the City Fire Inspector for approximately three years. Chief Coe was born in 1882 and served in the U.S. Army prior to joining the Fire Department. He died January 1, 1948.
