  • Printed on sleeve: Born on eastern shore of Maryland, June 22, 1845. Completed two years of college at Wilberforce University before enlisting with 54th Mass. Vol. Later transferred to Co. C, 55th regt. Wounded and assigned to Freedmen's Bureau under General O.O. Howard. Returned to Wilberforce after war. Graduated Valedictorian in 1870 and assigned to Emmannel AME church. Held appointment of Clerk of Customs at Pensacola and preached at Navy Yard church.
