Note from sleeve: Eugene Tucker, son of Ellis R. and Susie Council Tucker, born 1926. Joined the Navy at age 17, less than a month after his graduation from Crawfordville High School. He saw action in the battle of the Leyte Gulf and the liberation of the Philippines. He went to Okinawa and served in Japan as a landing craft operator. After discharge in 1946, he enlisted in the Army and went back to Japan in a field artillery unit. Fought and was wounded in the Korean War. In 1952, he became a medical technician and met and married Itsuko Murao, a nurse. Parents of 4 children. Eugene served briefly in Vietnam before being sent to Fort Benning, Ga., about 1956. Wife died of cancer. He retired in 1967 and returned to Crawfordville. Died 1990.
