General Note

  • Born on September 6, 1870 near Starke, Florida. Married Annie Markley on October 10, 1893. He was elected sheriff of Bradford County in 1892 and served from 1893-1897 and again from 1901-1905. He became the chief deputy sheriff of Nassau County in mid-1905 (four months before his death). On December 6, 1905 he was lured from town for an ambush where he was shot and killed. The name of Everett E. Johns is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. (East Wall, Panel 10, Line 18).
