Shown with his wife, Pauline, and their three oldest children: Orsdell (left), Virgia and Hazel (right).
Sheriff Forehand was born on February 4, 1875 in Cove Mills, Florida. Married Pauline Weaver on October 8, 1903. He became sheriff of Liberty County in 1901. On August 29, 1919 he was shot and killed while attempting to arrest Charlie Davis for attempted murder and rape. The name of Jay Lemuel Forehand is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. (West Wall, Panel 59, Line 19).
