• Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, noted Florida author of such works as The Yearling and Cross Creek, lived and worked in Cross Creek from 1928 until her death in 1953. The property was given to the University of Florida and later leased and administered by the Florida Dept. of Natural Resources as an historic site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places list on September 29, 1970.
