- Born on October 24, 1792 in Pittsfield, Virginia. Served as the second delegate from the territory of Florida from 1823-1825 (but was the first elected). He married Mary Letitia Kirkman in General Andrew Jackson's home, the Hermitage in 1824. Later served as the 3rd and 5th territorial Governor of Florida (1836-1839 and 1841-1844). He died on September 15, 1862 at his Tallahassee home "The Grove".
